For the past one month i was very much in a confused state as i couldn't come to a conclusion to freeze on a bike to purchase.
As my Super Splender started to give many problems, thought to exchange it with a new one, but couldn't make a firm decision and Zero on any particular bike. Initially i first thought to go for Hero bikes, but the most sad part was other than super Splender i found no good bikes at 125cc. Few referred me to go for Passion Pro and I was happy to go with the bike and there was no opposition from my family. Thinking that I would book passion pro next day, i was happy and had a good sleep. But next day morning, when I enquired at the show room, I came to know that it’s a 100 cc bike and it would take 2 months for delivery. All my interest to the bike was lost as soon as I heard that it is a 100 cc.
When i thought to myself that what kind of bike i look for, below configurations came into my mind.
1. Good Mileage & Pickup
2. capable of touching atleast 80 to 90 km speed
3. Good Look
4. Less Maintenance
5. Descent or less Price
Thinking whether I would get such a bike with all above conditions met, my inner thought asked me whether my expectation is too much like the below one ?
"Rendu paer Phone paesanum, 24 mani naeramum paesanum,Varsham poora paesanum, aana freeya paesanum,"
Athuku nee naera thaan poi paesanum”
Above Sandhanam’s dialogue opened my eyes and thought to give up on point 3 & 5.
When I found that no bikes at Hero has got a impressive record, I thought to go for Honda- Unicorn. Though the mileage gives only 50 to 55kmpl, I heard that the bike was good for ride. I convinced by family members and thought to go for Unicorn. I was in a happy mood, thinking that next day I would book Honda and had a good sleep that night.
When I visited Honda showroom and enquired about Unicorn and I was stunned to hear that it would take 9 months for delivery. Was the bike that much worth it to wait till 9 months? I was not sure and thought to give it up. All my happiness lost in a minute. I started to explore for other bikes at 125CC, the showroom guy was trying to draw my attention only on Twister 110cc. Though I was not interested on 100-CC, it made to turn back for a while for its look which looked as a Mini Stunner. I also tried enquiring with few more Honda showrooms; however everyone at showroom were trying to push me for Twister. I was really not aware of the background why they wanted to push more to sell Twister. I wantedly gave less importance to it and looked for Shine-125cc, however few of the reviews stopped me going for it as there would be lot of vibrations when we increase the speed for more than 60Kms.
Keeping Honda a-side, I gave a look on Bajaj Products. But only 2 attracted me which is Pulsar and Discover. Though I was ready to go with any of the one, my heart voted more for Pulsar. However I haven’t got much response to Pulsar from my family. Also there were few talks like Bajaj doesn’t have resale value & Bajaj products may come with problems after 2 years, pulsar, discover are old models etc. Somehow I made my family members to agree and I was in a happy mood thinking atlast I would book a pulsar tomorrow.
But the next day someone (mavane avan en kaila kedachaan) brainwashed my family members to go against bajaj products and and my Father was a major contributor in opposing Bajaj. (Ethanai Vazhigalada athil thaan ethanai kuzhigalada)
I was very much tired and fed up searching for a good one, and hence gave a thought to service my Super Splender and run it for few more years. Thinking that I would give my bike for service tomorrow, I slept that night.
But something made me to think again on it that this is the second time I will have to rebore my engine and will that cause any trouble even after reboring ? Again re-opened the bike talks at my home and campaigned for Pulsar a lot for one more time (like Naan Aatshikku Vandhaal……), highlighting that I won’t get back pain, good in look, descent price, less maintenance costs, won’t get problem for 5 year etc, etc, etc…And the end result I loss the deposit and I couldn’t fool my parents.
I was unable to make a decision and was very angry on all bike makers that these guys are not worth enough to manufacture one good 125cc bike. But I couldn’t wait for a long time thinking what if the budget allotted for me to get a bike gets expired (varatshi karuthi nidhi thallubadi seiyappattuvidumo)???
I again visited Honda showroom and explored about Twister and read some reviews on the net. Most of the reviews were positive and it looked good too. The price was Rs 55,000 without Disc, and they agreed to take my Super splender for 14K which came to a total pay of Rs41,000. Not sure why from the beginning my Dad & my wife were in favour of Twister and when I suggested for it, I won the election and they immediately nodded their heads and gave their thumbs up.
Thinking that atlast I may book a Twister tomorrow, planning to have a good sleep tonight.
